Today's words of wisdom

If you're not part of the solution... you're part of the precipitate.

Introducing Darwin- the Apple Snail- he's a quick learner

So Monday's suck- Blonde Doctor put the filter back in the tank...on the up side she did buy me a new house.

In addition to the house AND the filter there is a new house mate as well!!!
Honestly- this guy Darwin is all round and hard, and he keeps hiding when I go to 'play' with him, Ok I am trying to eat him but thats not the point- you should say 'Hi' when you move in with some one shouldn't you?

to be honest she's not my cup of tea (or Axolotl pellets as the case may be)...

Flight of the concords Lab parody

Blonde Doctor claims this is influenced by New Zealand genius- of course she's biased being a Kiwi.

Personally I wish she'd feed me this morning instead of making me distract myself from hunger with Youtube...NOMS woman NOOOOMMMMMMMS

Psychology Experiment

Spikey Haired Guy has taken to working from home a couple of days lately- hence my daily stimulation really has deminished.
Ergo I have devised an experiment- the pschology of interaction with the H. sapiens sub-group, computus programus.
So I splashed him... when he least expected it.

Result:Spikey Haired guy screamed like a wee girl (I am assuming here as my observable lab mates are of 22years and older) and the lab girls thought it was hilarious.

Conclusion- I think I shall try for 2 splashes and see if it elicits double the reaction.
:)

I have definitely grown- I have made a quite significant stomach measurement today and I have found that when I eat more pellets the rocks in my tank move.

Wednesday 18 May 2011

I had this really strange dream last night.....

I was swimming, tiny and see-through...and missing some phalanges on my right side.... and there was the spikey haired guy....Also I seemed to be confused about my gender....

three pellets at once...

Check this out- my mandibular growth this month has been so impressive I can eat 3 pellets at once:)

and out of interest they've been doing some work on my kind to characterise the evolution of and development of the jaw- apparently  Axolotls are a good model for anamniotic organisms (growth without an amnion- or the big sacky thing that you have around you whilst you're growing inside your mother...)

check out how cool my jaw looked in development

Happy Birthday Lab buddy

Well my lab mate Kelly is turning 23- happy birthday and thanks for the noms. May all your westerns be clear and your Mass Spec be contamination free (especially from Axolotl mucins- as I know you love to pat me!)

I'm a MONSTEEEERRRRRRR

I started at 5cm- and since I've been on the stacked-on diet of earth worms I have grone to 7.5cm (which due to Parallax makes me about 3 meters long I reckon...

was surfing Youtube today...

incidently the coolest thing I found on youtube- (inbetween admiring my view on this beautiful Dundee day)

Yup definitely a lovely day!
Stunning day here in Dunners...not a bad view for a scientific Salamander:)

Tuesday 22 March 2011

Heard a joke today...

A Man walks into a bar with a Salamander on his shoulder.
The Barman asks the man "what's his name?" and the Man says "Tiny", and the barman replies "Why do you call him that?" and the man says "because he's my newt"

Thermodynamics...how hard can it be?

I have been inspired by my 'Lab Mates' (and givers of noms) to do an experiment today... to demonstrate

The first law of thermodynamics mandates conservation of energy and states in particular that the flow of heat is a form of energy transfer.

So I have been zipping around my tank to transfer energy to water molecules- and then checking the temperature... have been going an hour now though and I think it might take a while!

mmm not bad digs...

I'm a bit shy still... these science types keep dashing in and out of the office all day, and twice a week a spikey haired fellow comes in- I'll see if I can't get a shot of him. He doesn't do the same stuff as the other 2 girls in the office- seems pretty hung up on his computer and some website called peptracker...
